Spots on rock?

I have a ton of these dark spots all over my base rock in my tank. It doesn't look like coralline either. Any idea what it might be? Hopefully these pictures are sufficient.

bump. Saw a couple other posts recently that assumed their spots like this were coralline... just doesn't look like it though.

Thoughts?

Yup...I have them, too, on my Marco Rock. I'm dying to know for certain just what they are!!

Either that or it could be Sponges. I have like 10 different coloured sponges that come,get eaten and come back again

Trying not to hijack the OPs thread, but I'm sure mine aren't sponges. These started for me when I had an all dry rock system, and just some hermits with rather clean-looking shells.

The spots are looking more and more like coralline each day. Maybe because I didn't have any significant contributor to coralline (like seeded live rock) then this is what it looks like when it grows really slow.

What would be the source of your coralline? My spots would have had to have started with a tiny bit of coralline on a single hermit crab, unless it could have been in my dry Seaflor sand...

Lynnmw1208 had this on her dry rock, and it turned pink for her. Not how I imagined coralline showing up, though!

CA can start with one shade and change.

Mine goes from light pink to purple to dark red overtime.

If you look at the middle of the second pic. you can see CA on the snail shell.

I took some pics real quick to show you guys. My spots were greenish blue at first and now they are turning pink. I have mostly dry rock so perhaps this is how it grows on completely dead rock.

these are still very much green/blue and I'm sure soon they will turn

What would be the source of your coralline?

I actually did have a tiny piece of rock covered in coralline (golf ball sized) that I put up near the water output to try to stimulate growth. Oddly though there are no coralline spots near that area...

I have about 600 snails/hermits so surely some of them brought in some coralline as well.

Yeah now it deff looks like coralline algae. Looks good dude! lol after 3 months now i still cant mine to grow under LEDS.

Guess that is a good sign that my LEDs are doing their job. Although it has been 4 months since I introduced the small amount of coralline. What ratio of watts to gallons do you have? I run about 480 watts at max during the day, so about an even 1:1 ratio.
