To make a black background on the tank, can i just use a can of black spray paint and spray it on the back of the tank? is it safe, will it look ok?

Just wipe the tank clean and make sure ther is no film of salt on it if its been in use. I would mask off the plsatic trim etc, and also wrap tank with newspapers and masking tape as no matter how carefull you are, over spray will find its way and get all over it, so it saves you from having to clean it later.....Odds are it will take multiple coats on it till it gets to the point you do not see light through it....Good thing though is it dones not matter if it runs and it looks nice and slick from the inside and runs are not visible, except on the outside......

I used a $1 can of mis-mixed latex from HD. I found a blue that was perfect.

If I change my mind, I can scrape it off easily.

Best $1 I have spent in a while.

If it is a running tank, I would NOT spray w/ spray paint.

I suggest Krylon Fusion for this. I sprayed the back of a new tank once before and I loved it. Worked out great. I plan on doing it again once I get me a tank going again.
