My tank is starting to look pretty good, except the valonia(bubble algea) is getting out of hand, how do I eliminate this stuff in my tank???
TIA, Josh

You can manually remove it. Be careful not to break the bubble and release more Valonia. Remove each bubble from the tank entirely.

Same prob here. I don't get it. I have tested my water and everything looks GREAT! My corals are growing like weeds but the valonia is starting to take over. I just added two emerald crabs; I hope they take care of some. I thought that this stuff only grows in tanks that are high in nutrients.

Thats actually a myth. I used to think the same thing because of what I read about it. For example if you get a fish that eats it they will just tear into it causing it to burst. I had this stuff real bad and just started ripping it out. The cause was high nutrients. When I got the nutrients under control it died off. Most Rabbit fish and Naso tangs will keep it in check except for the areas they can't get to.

Eric Borneman describes Valonia in detail within one of his articles.

Each bubble has tiny bubbles within the structure. Once the larger bubble is torn open the others are released. Therefore, removing the Valonia from the tank whole is advised.

Will the naso's take care of it I'm getting tired of pulling it out myself. The red sea sailfin is supposed to do it but nobody around me can bring them in.Since I went BB my acro's turned around and look great but now BA.I was wanting to put in a Naso and now I have a reason to add one.

Which tank was that in Algaeman? I have allways had bubble algae and it seems to stay in check but doesn't dissapear. If I get a nutrient spike for some reason, like taking out my SSB recently, it will take off for a couple of weeks. Everything I've seen says it will survive in "low nutrient" conditions.
just curious, Chris
