sps care.

Ive tried adding a couple sps here and there to my tank but have never had success. My nitrates were pretty high ( 80+ on API) but Ive since brought them down to about 20. I run GFO so phos is fine at .05 I would think. All my other parameters (calc/mag/kh) are within acceptable ranges.

My lps/softies/zoas are doing well with the nutrients the way they are.

My question is at what level do nuntrients become detrimental to sps? Ive never really had 0 trates/phos. The reason I ask is Ive been thinking of getting some biopellets online but not sure if have 0 nutrients would actually hurt my current corals.

I do not recommend that you change your biology to accommodate a few SPS. Mixing SPS, softies, and LPS in one system is very difficult and one or more of the three will suffer. If LPS and softies are the primary corals, keep the tank relatively dirty to keep them happy and not worry about the SPS. Can you keep a mixed tank successfully, yes, but be prepared for a rough ride. One month the SPS will do well and softies will suffer, and the next month the SPS will suffer and the softies will do well.

Good luck.
