sps frag coloration

How long will it take for a small colony or frag to obtain it's optimum coloration once introduced into the tank? I am new to SPS so I wonder if a frag is not looking good color-wise (but growing with decent PE) then is it because it's still acclimating to the tank condition or is it because it does not like the placement, light intensity etc ... I think my tank has very stable parameters and the lighting is sufficient.

A lot of factors at play here. Dependent on the type of SPS, the specific species, whether it's wild/maricultured/aquacultured, type of lighting/color temperature/intensity, flow, nutrient availability or excess thereof.

Really an impossible question to answer.

That said. Most montipora's color up relatively quickly. Some acropora's have little issues with color such as Acropora Yongei (Slimer). Some always seem to have issues such as Acropora Microclados (Shortcake).

Generally speaking... Aquacultured will color up easier/faster than maricultured, and maricultured better than wild.

Higher color temperatures (20k) typically yield more color than lower (10k), while lower yields faster growth.

Also, available trace elements play a role on the color. High nitrates and phosphates as well has some play on the color so like the above poster stated that is a difficult question to really answer.
