Registered Reefer
I posted this in my local club but thought I would get more insight here as well..
I know this is a highly debatable topic.. But I figured I ask and see what other people have experienced or have success stories.
I have a 40 breeder SPS dominated reef. Controlled by Apex and a swc 120 skimmer. I've had Chemipure and Purigen in my tank for the last 3 months and just took them out and they looked horrible! Should I replace these or remove them from the system completely? I do not run any Carbon or GFO at the moment.
I dose as needed and my most recent parameters are:
Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0.25-0.5
Phosphates undetectable
Alk 10.2
Calcium 360 (bringing it up slowly)
Mg 1250 (bringing it up)
Salinity 1.028
Temp: fluctuates between 77-78 sometimes gets to 79
Few weeks ago I lost a Tenuis to RTN
Few days after I saw another one start RTNing so I fragged it
And since then about 2 others
This past weeked another one RTNd
I started with 2 Radion g3s at 35%. I was getting great growth but the coloration was not there so I thought I would switch to ATI T5s.
Colors began to come back slowly but the growth slowed down A LOT, but I rather have nice colors so I didn't go back to Radions.
I do 10g water changes every 2 weeks. Over the weekend I decided to do a 20 gallon water change and Today about 3 more are RTNing and I have been fragging the ones I can but some I lose too fast.
Any body have any ideas or experiences?
I'm pretty bummed because I have quite a few nice pieces and really contemplating on just starting a new tank and dipping everything and transferring over. Tank has been running for 4 months now
