SPS RTNing

I posted this in my local club but thought I would get more insight here as well..

I know this is a highly debatable topic.. But I figured I ask and see what other people have experienced or have success stories.

I have a 40 breeder SPS dominated reef. Controlled by Apex and a swc 120 skimmer. I've had Chemipure and Purigen in my tank for the last 3 months and just took them out and they looked horrible! Should I replace these or remove them from the system completely? I do not run any Carbon or GFO at the moment.

I dose as needed and my most recent parameters are:

Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0.25-0.5
Phosphates undetectable
Alk 10.2
Calcium 360 (bringing it up slowly)
Mg 1250 (bringing it up)
Salinity 1.028
Temp: fluctuates between 77-78 sometimes gets to 79

Few weeks ago I lost a Tenuis to RTN
Few days after I saw another one start RTNing so I fragged it
And since then about 2 others
This past weeked another one RTNd

I started with 2 Radion g3s at 35%. I was getting great growth but the coloration was not there so I thought I would switch to ATI T5s.
Colors began to come back slowly but the growth slowed down A LOT, but I rather have nice colors so I didn't go back to Radions.

I do 10g water changes every 2 weeks. Over the weekend I decided to do a 20 gallon water change and Today about 3 more are RTNing and I have been fragging the ones I can but some I lose too fast.

Any body have any ideas or experiences?

I'm pretty bummed because I have quite a few nice pieces and really contemplating on just starting a new tank and dipping everything and transferring over. Tank has been running for 4 months now

Your ammonia is bad. Your Salinity is high. And your mag is low. You need ammonia at 0 all the time. Your mag should be 1350 and get your Salinity to 1.026 I'm not surprised they are rtning. Get parms in check. And you'll be fine!

Last thing and I'll leave you alone. Starting over won't do anything better. Your tank is so immature that's a big reason too. 4 months is nothing. Sps require very stable water parms and a very established tank. Go slow patience is everything. Good luck to you!

Yeah, my salinity is a bit on the high side because of my last water change. Workin' on bringing it down slowly.

Thanks for being straight forward vapour! I was forced to break down my older tanks and was finally able to set up a new one and probably got a bit excited and rushed things.

I will do those things slowly over the new few weeks an hopefully I can keep it stable, thanks again!!

Not a problem. Hope it all works out for you!
