SPS Too Happy? Polyp Extention Blocks Color.

I have had my reef (54g corner) set up for about five or six months now, and my SPS are doing great. So great in fact that the polyps are extending so far that they are blocking most, if not all of the color of the corals. I know that this isnt such a bad thing, but it makes them look sort of drab. Any suggestions?

Do you feed your corals?

I have two ideas, even though I'm not entirely sure you have an issue. A couple of times a month, try a dark day to simulate thunderstorms.
Try feeding a paponei(sp) similar to the one Mike Palleta suggests. So IMHO-
1. Slightly different lighting regimine
2. Different feeding

Also, try adjusting flow with more laminar motion.

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone will be able to jump in with some more scientific explanations and solutions.

I have never found excessive polyp extension to result in loss of color because most polyps carry on the color. It sounds to me like you may not have enough light... then what you say sounds about right. What lighting are you using/where in the tank is the coral, what kind of coral, what sort of flow do you have?
