Got my first clam today and I was wondering how much light is enough for them I know you need calcium and alk but I have it in my 55 with 220 watts of light it's only about 3 inches from the light but I was wondering how much light I would need on a 29 and how much I would need on a 55 to put it on the bottom since they like the sand better than rock

Hi Huff,

You said 220 watts of light, but what kind of lights? PC's, VHO, MH etc ?

It all depends on the lights, for example... I have Crocea's on my sand in a 24" deep tank, but i have Double Ended 250 Watt MH's (3 of them on a 5 foot tank)... I also have Crocea's on top of my rocks too, you just have to make sure to aclimate them to the lights...

Right now I have 5 clams total, 4 crocea's and 1 derasa..

One website I've found with lot's of info (and sales of course) is www.clamsdirect.com

I hope that helps in some way, let me know on the lighting setup, I'll try to help with what I can.
