Hi, everyone.
I will be receiving soon the SS strain of rotifers and Instant Algae Nannochloropsis, read their manual and threads here, still have some questions. Can you help?
1. Should be salinity the same, as for L-type of rotifers, 1.017?
2. Recommended temperature is 30C, but one of threads here says, that using heater in rotifer culturing vessel can cause a lot of troubles. So, 30C or room temperature?
3. Most frequently mentioned ammonia neutralizer is Amquel +, but it takes some time to order and ship it. Did anybody try the Seachem Prime, Brightwell Erase-Cl or anything similar from chain stores?
4. The convenient way to do water changes, described on this forum, is pouring rotifers in another container, cleaning old container, adding new water, returning rotifers. Right?
How frequently should be it done, and what amount of water should be changed, 80% every other day?
5. What coffee strainer can be used as temporary replacement for rotifer sieve, the paper one or stainless steel mesh (but it looks yellow)?
6. Sterilizing water: is a household bleach, 5 ml (teaspoon) per 5gal, really not too harsh? With dechlorinator afterwards. What dose of dechlorinator use, triple? All this soup shouldn't kill rotifers. Really confused.
7. How to implement simple mechanical and/or biological filtration for a few small containers, 1/2 gal each? Safe for very small rotifers.
Thanks.
P.S. I'm not breeding fish. This will be food for corals.
