ssb for ywg and pistol?

hello, i am trying to plan out my tank, i do not want a deep sand bed, so i am wondering if that means that i cannot have a yellow watchman and pistol pair. i plan on 1.5-2 inches of sand, is this enough?

I had a pair in a tank with a 2" sand bed and they did fine. However, I had a 4" PVC with a several large holes drilled into it supporting some live rock, and they used that as their home. I guess that would be a definite maybe.
