St. Louis Science Center

Yup!
As most of you know, we perform maintenance on the tank at the St. Louis Science Center. I have been working with the contact there and we have decided that SLASH will be performing maintenance the first Saturday of every month. I am the primary contact for this effort so please feel free to PM me if you are interested in helping. In case you do not want to look at a calendar, please see the below dates.

4 June
2 July
6 August
3 September
1 October
5 November
3 December

Unless someone would like to meet elsewhere, we meet in the back of the main parking lot at 0730 hours. Typically I will be in touch with those that let me know they will be going a day or two before the scheduled maintenance with details (phone number, which vehicle is mine, etc.). I look forward to hopefully meeting more of you and seeing old faces. Also, when there has been a decent turn out in the past, we almost made a mini pizza afternoon of it with lunch and a few brews.

I was just informed that there was apparently a policy change that may have an impact to some of you who are interested in lending a hand. Since we are in the Science Center while it is closed, we are no longer able to bring in children while we are performing maintenance. As with all rules, there are exceptions. Basically, they have to have staff there for liability issues when there are children present and with the Center being closed, there is normally not personnel available.

As some of you may know, the Science Center had plans to put in a decent sized tank. Just as a heads up, I received the following email. I have made some discretionary edits.

Dear Dennis,

Earlier this year, a SLASH member was involved in helping us design a marine aquarium system for our Life Science Lab. He has been in regular contact with one of my colleagues, Richard Osborn, but Richard has been unable to reach him. I have also tried to reach him and I've been unsuccessful as well. We are about to begin work on the aquarium, which is a 300+ gallon tank, plus the system that would go with it. Would you or anyone else in your group be interested? We are hoping to form and maintain a long-term, ongoing collaboration with SLASH in making our Life Science Lab aquarium truly a showpiece that we can use to bring public attention to your group, and its activities.

Thank you so much! Please don't hesitate to give me a call too, if you would like to talk about our aquarium project.

Sincerely,
Cindy

I have contacted Cindy and let her know that I can be contacted on this project. I will keep everyone up to date as I receive information and silicate for both information and help as we move forward. This is an exciting endeavor for both the club and the Science Center.

I am having a garage sale the weekend of the 9th so I will join you again in August! If it was this weekend I could go.

I would definitely be onboard as well;) Seemed several years ago since we all moved that tank and equipment from Sammy Hagar's bar:beer:

Sorry for the lack of an update guys. The schedule still holds to the first Saturday of each month. There will be an exception for at least the month of March.

17 March
07 April
05 May
02 June
07 July
04 August
01 September
06 October
03 November
01 December

As always, the schedule is flexible. If you would like to participate but are unable to make it on a Saturday morning, please let me know and we will try to accommodate.

Also, since we are in the Science Center while it is closed, we are not able to bring in children while we are performing maintenance. As with all rules, there are exceptions. Basically, they have to have staff there for liability issues when there are children present and with the Center being closed, there is normally not personnel available.

Please let me know if you would like to attend so we make sure to wait for you before going into the Science Center.

The Life Sciences Lab. I will try to get some more technical pics the next time I am there.
