Stagnant Zoas

I have a Biocube 29 that is up and running for about 1.5 years. I have had Zoas in the tank for about a little over a year. I have quite a few different kinds in various places in the tank. The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get any growth. I haven't really lost a significant number of polyps. For the most part all of my frags remain at the state they were placed in the tank.

Nitrate not detectable
Nitrite not detectable
Ammonia not detectable
Alkalinity 9 dKh
Calcium 440
Phosphate not detectable

I do have algae growth that I think is cyano and halimeda that I try to keep under control as best I can but I'm sure there are phosphates that are not reflected in the testing.

Lighting: Rapid LED retrofit kit. Even split of true blue, Royal blue, neutral white, and cool white. Both the blue and white systems ramp up to 25%.

Feeding: alternate rods and hikari mysis daily. Reef chili and Fuel twice a week.

Filtration: media basket with filter pad, purigen, and chemipure. Media changed every 2 months. Aquatic life 115 skimmer that recently replaced a tunze that died.

I really am hoping to try some new things and figure this out. If there is any additional info that can help let me know.

More light, maybe raise levels to at least 60%? My Zoas grow better under intense T5 white then they do under my LED's

That has been my goal. Ive been looking to ramp up to 30% and keep going month by month but my Duncan reacted poorly so I took it back down. It may be time to revisit that.

Duncans are fairly hardy. You can move them lower if possible, but they should acclimate. They might close up, could be a few days but eventually they will get happy again. At least from my experience.

I wasn't sure whether I should try running the blues slightly higher than the whites. I know that most people prefer slightly more blues than I have but I was not sure if that could also be part of the growth problem

You are right if need be I could move the dun can down. It is a little over midway up right now.

Your Water is Waaaay to clean.

When I had 0 Nitrate and 0 Phosphate nothing grew.

I stopped using Carbon and Raised Nitrate and Phosphate and all my Corals started growing like crazy.

Yeah thanks for that post. I had read that before and it was one of the reasons I posted this. The main one of the six things listed that I do not do is dip much. I do have low nitrates but I figured the heavy feeding a few times a week and fuel would take care of the nutrients but I could be wrong on that. My concern is that in a nano tank with limited grazers that my algae that is an annoyance now could become a problem.

Get Tiger Trochus Snails for the Algae.

Get Rid of the Purigen, Chemi-Pure, etc.

Feed your Corals.
