Are Stainless Steel hose clamps ok? If not what can I use that will be submerged in my tank?

Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you if they are ok or not. However, if you're going to try them make sure you get them from a boating store like West Marine and they have a stainless screw as well. Automotive clamps usually don't have stainless screws, just the band is stainless, and will rust.

Stainless Steel can and will rust over time and I would not recomend them for your tank. Most LFS have plastic clamps.

I have SS clamps on the hoses connecting to my skimmer. After several years, one rusted through and broke. It broke as I was reattaching the hose after doing routine maintenance/cleaning on the skimmer.

The clamp was about 1' above the surface of the water. I don't think it would be wise to use any metal in any application with direct water contact.

the fact is that over time saltwater will eat through anything even plastic to the point that it will become brittle.

That said zip ties are probobly your best option
