stand center brace

I have a 75 gallon FOWLR tank with a 29 gallon sump underneath in the standard 75 gallon wood tank stand. The sump needs to come out for reconfiguration (I am going to two 10 gallon tanks plumbed together) but I can't get the 29 gallon out without taking down the 75 from the top of the stand ( I originally put the sump in before I set up the 75). The stupid center brace in the front and back of the stand block my way of removing the sump. Would it be cool if i take out half the water in my tank and then remove the front center brace only so I can get my sump out? I can put it right back in after I get the sump out. Has anyone ever done this before????

Thanks

I actually did this with my 90 when I wanted to replace my sump as well. It was really scary to do it, but it did work for me. I can't say with certainty that it would be ok in your case, it's definately "do at your own risk".

I had the exact same problem. The center brace was in the way by a few inches. We cut out the back center brace and then immediately put in a new center brace just to the side of the old one using hardwood, metal plates, and screws. This gave me enough room to put in the new sump. This was 2 years ago and I've never had any issues with it.

I'm going to be taking that tank down tomorrow. If I remember to, I'll take pictures of what the stand looks like when the sump is out of the way.
