star polyp not opening

I have some algae growing on my star polyp. Is there an easy way to get this off ? Should I increase flow? I use ro/di water so i know the purity of the water. Any opinions?

do you have a TDS meter to test your rodi water? i too have a RODI unit and currently the best it produces is 1ppm, when it turns on it is as high as 15ppm...

aside from your RO unit working properly, other sources for algae growth are excessive food, poor lights (spectrum/ intensity) dirty rocks, etc...there are hundreds of things it could be...

that said you can pretty much scrub GSP with a tooth brush if need be..

what type of algae are you dealing with?
what is in your tank for bioload?
how often and what do you feed your tank?

My tds meter reads 2-3 in out is always 0. I feed once or twice a day with new life spectrum 1mm sinking pellets. My light is brand new led reef breeders photon 16. I did just add 10 lbs. Of new very white clean live rock. This made my tank go through a diatom bloom( I think this was problem). It is not like the normal green algae I'm used to seeing. It is long stringy and almost represents a fern. Bio load is 1 clown 2 cromis and 1 six line wrasse.

long stringy fern like algae i believe is bryopsis...which is a serious PITA to get rid of...a pic would help id it though...does it look like this

if you can pull the rock(s) it is growing on and scrub/ peroxide it before it gets out of hand you should be okay...you can also use peroxide in your tank as well in small batches..

there is a thread on it…you have to administer the peroxide directly on the algae, it will rapidly burn the algae and destroy it..personally i would do it out o tank but it is safe to do it in the tank too…the peroxide will quickly turn into pure water and oxygen in the tank.
