Star polyps

I'm almost embarrased to ask this question...

My star polyps were the first coral that i ever got, just like most of you guys.

I've never had a problem with them, other than they grow too fast !

For the past two weeks, the polyps haven't been coming out during the day, instead, they come out in their full glory at night.

They're confused ! What is making them do this?

It's not a big deal, my mom likes the look of "The pretty new purple coral" :o

idk. i had that problema few weeks ago. once the halides came on... the stars closed. i then moved the stars to the bottom of the tank, and blasted a powerhead on them. they are now out and open during the day.

so perhaps your lighting is too high. also SG can afect gsp. in my old 15 gallon tank, i lost all my GSP. my SG was 1.014!

lastly, is anything picking at it during the day?

I'm a LPS person tho, so idk. perhaps if u posted this in the soft coral section

I don't think the lights are too bright. The polyps have been in the same spot since I got them.

I haven't seen anything picking at them, and my salinity is at a stable 1.025 measured with a refractometer.

And go figure, right after I post about problems....I got home last night and the polyps were out with the lights on. I wonder if they will stay out now during the day now?

Same kind of thing happened to mine. Did great for a few months then one day closed up. Stayed closed for 3-4 days and then all opened again and grew faster then ever. Not sure what that was all about but have stayed opened since. I did some research and apparently they may do this from time to time.
