Starfish loosing it's fingers

I have a red starfish with 5 fingers. I do not know what species it is, but these last few weeks I noticed that it has lost 2 fingers. One day I saw a finger missing and two days later another one was missing. Why is this happening?

In this aquarium I have a blue linkia starfish, almost has been there for 2 years with no ill effects.

Can someone help me please?

They tend to start to dissintegrate it they are malnourished. Not sure if that is your problem or not? Try spot feeding some vitamin soaked shrimp to the starfish and see if that helps. That's all I got on that with the info provided.

Linkia starfish are a very dificult to keep starfish even in large aquariums they will eventually perish.

Flip it over and see if it has little snails attached to it. If it does then remove the snails.

I am not sure about this species of starfish, but I know with some they loose their limbs, and then that limb forms a new starfish.
