Start Polyps Didn't Like Water Change

I had high phosphates so I did a 60% water change over several days. The phosphates didn't come down much. Unfortunately, there were some times when the salinity got high.

Now, only a few Star Polyps are coming out. It has been about a week already. Do you think that they will come back?

IMO if anything can with stand the changes to the tank it will be gsp. If you did that large of an h2o change with out any change to your parameters I would find the reason your having issues before worrying about your gsp. I personally have shot mine with muratic acid in hopes of killing them on rock and they always come back. Unless your levels are way off I think they will be fine in time.

They will come back, and are also a great indicator of water quality. Recheck your numbers, see if something is off. Mine closed when I let SG drift up to 1.027 ... closed for days. Once corrected back to 1.025 they opened that night.

Give them time- they don't like off numbers, but they'll always come back out. I've also found they are quite sensitive to "clean water", but once your large water change dilutes with everything, they'll show themselves again!

Thanks everyone.

Yes I think that the SG got above 1.029 because the top off mechanism was shut down for several days and no RO/DI water was added. It is at 1.0265 right now, going to 1.026.

As for the phosphates. I think that since it has been high for a long time, when I changed the water, it just came back out of the large amount of rock that I have in the main tank and the rubble jam packed 55G sump.

Everything else looks happy.
