starting a 400gal

Well I am going to write the check on tuesday. I am going to have a 96"x36"x30 flatback hex tank made out of 1" polycast. I need to give him the finnal specs then also. I am not sure of the drain and return sizes. I also decided to have the front seams mitered so there won't be any distortion from forming a single panel. All of the suport equipment needs to be in the stand. There is still a few things I need to decide on. I am looking at a deltec ap702 for skimming. I also need to figure out the sump and refugium size to have them made. Pumps for return and closed loop (thinking of getting Oceans motion 4way). I have 4 DE250watt lights wich I may go up to 400watt. I am planning on ussing a schuran jetstream 1, o2 generator, along with pumps to operate them and a aquacontrollor which I have already purchased. Any input would be appreciated. And yes I will be posting pictures when I start to build the steel stand next week.

Heading out to buy steel to make the frame for the stand. I sould have the tank in two to three weeks so I need to get a move on things.

If your going to have a large sps load, I would recommend you get the Jetstream 2. The 1 won't do what's it rated. It doesn't keep up my Alk very good on my 180, just something to consider

I should get the tank by the end of the year. Still trying to decide how tall to make the stand and canopy. I have been looking to see what others have been using. I have enough steel to make the stand anywhere between 30"-40".

make it 40"..i just made my stand 30" for my new cube and like you, all the equipment is under the stand. once you set up a pump, unions, ball valves and the OM 4 way, you will have NO room. by the grace of god, i have about 1" between the bottom of my stand and the top of my OM 4 way. its going to be hell if i never need to replace it. i built mine so low because i wanted to be able to look into the tank while seated on the couch or whatever. i had my old tank at around 48" and some of my shorter friends only got to see the underside of my corals.

I am picking the tank up tommorow and as far as the stand goes I have not started it yet I have been a little buisy trying to get my old house ready to rent. I plan on getting some work done this weekend and hopefully start to post some pictures of something.

I am also starting to set up a 400. 72L, 42W, 30T and was going to get a Deltec. I changed my mind to a H&S after talking to Ed in SF. You might call him: home.wwdb.org/kmaintl/

Well Way over do for an update. Busy with a new little girl and the time flew by. Enough take here are a few pics to start with. Frist some of me getting the tank from the shipping terminal. I had to have them uncrate it so it would fit into my truck.

I made the stand from 1.5"square tube steel. I had 8 24ft sections to start with. It stands 40" when done I used 3/4 hardwood ply for the base and the top, with a 3/4 foam on top of that. The stand was powder coated white and I primed and painted all of the ply with outdoor paint.

looks like its coming along nicely... must be excited. Are you planning on hosting some ORCA meeting in the future? I'm trying to get my tank finished in Winterpark. Let me know if you need a hand with anything.

thirschmann I would love to host some meetings but not untill everything is done. I am trying to get some people over this Wednesday to move the tank onto the stand.

NYCREEF69 Thanks, it was alot of work and cost more than I thought but I think it turned out good.
