cycling atm obviously, but cant wait to stock it. :-)

Im glad to see you got everything figured out and it looks like youre setup pretty well moving forward! Nice equipment choices. As to the pellets, I dont run them so dont use me as a guide but ive seen people go both ways. SOme argue that you want to run them from the start as to not shock the system when bringing them online with things in the tank, where others feel that in such a clean environment such as a new setup that running them once they are actually needed makes more sense...if it were me id wait til I needed them when I start to register nitrates on a weekly basis then start them slow.

its an emergency line. Im using a herbie overflow system because the tank is in my room. lol. I have 1inch pipe for the main line as you can see with the valve attached at bottom to control flow. I have another 1inch pipe attached to a 3/4 inch bulkhead leading to that black hose for an emergency line, just in case the main line clogs. And I have a 1inch pipe coming off of my return pump(a mag 9.5) also with a control valve leading to the top of the tank out of the dual nozzles. I drilled a small hole in the 90 degree fitting so if the power goes out it will not siphon back into the tank through the nozzles.

I also turned off my skimmer for the time being, because I was using bioenzyme to help speed up the cycle. little did i know, it was all getting sucked up into my skimmer lol. duh! should have known. I also threw in a piece of shrimp because my ammonia isnt spiking very high so far.(.25ppm) no nitrites or nitrates yet either. :-(

ok, makes sense, reason i asked is i have a similar tank that i am setting up. & mine has
a 3/4" return barb plumbed in that spot.

Nice setup- looks good so far. I've got a similar tank -these are not the best for SPS IMO narrow front to back and high relative to size of tank but we gotta do what we can right???
I've got almost exclusively acros + montis in mine so it works -it can be tricky though. Watch your flow too, that mp40 will do the trick but watch the opposite direction.
Good luck...keep us posted on your progress!

If you are going to use the Biopellets, you should start now, since your tank is cycling you can put the amount recomended by the maker.

If i start the biopellets now, Ill need to run the skimmer. Isnt all of this counterproductive to the nitrogen cycle?

The cycle is full of myths and if you have your own succesful own way of doing it you should stick to it, but I can ensure you that you can start your pellets and skimmer without negative effects to it.

what's the deal with the R7S HID? I've always been curious but never found too much info. Is it something in addition to the mH?

If its what I think it is, then it uses the new small HID lamps which look like a small halogen two prong job used in undercabinet puck lights. An lfs here uses them over their show reef in the directional fixture. THey are neat since theyre like track lights that you can "aim" in any direction. I think they are only available in the 10k spectrum though with 14k possibly being available too.

This is info that I got from the lfs guy I asked about them so take it for what its worth. Ill be honest, im not really sure what advantage they have over standard lamp types aside from being able to fit them in smaller spaces. Hopefully the OP can shed some better light on them and tell why he used them.

honestly, i got these lights because I wanted metal halides for my tank and these were the only ones that didnt have to be hung. or so i was told by my lfs.
