Starting an in wall 300g display tank - Questions Thread

Hello Everyone,

About 2 years ago I had a chance to buy a 300g at an awesome price. I decided to back out because of humidity issues and I didn't want to destroy my new house. Now I feel that I have a way to dehumidify the room and I'm moving forward. I've been a lurker on here for awhile, but I still have questions. I was hoping I can get some advice from you guys.

What I'll do is post a small summary of what I'm doing and ask my questions. I have a few and I'll probably ask them in small groups at a time. I have questions from the tank, to plumbing, etc.

I figured when I get to the point of ordering a tank, I would post a build thread then:)

Summary:
I want an 8' long tank. The width and height I'm not too picky about right now. I prefer the deeper tanks because they look a bit cooler. Also, the tank needs to fit under some stairs so height might be an issue with a taller tank. These are the display tanks I'm looking at in the form of L x W x H. Either a 96x30x25 or a 96x24x31. The tank will be a mixed reef. I love all kinds of corals. I've been pretty successful keeping a 90g mixed reef. My goal is to not use a chiller in the system. I've talked to people like traveller7 and I think it is definitely possible. I will probably ask more questions about this later in this thread or in a build thread that I'll eventually startup.

Now For The Questions:
Well I would like to get a glass starfire tank. However, I have been considering acrylic. I'm concerned about using acrylic because of scratching and its insulation properties. Since I'm trying to setup a tank without a chiller, I need all of the help I can get. The tank will be in a cooler basement so I figured that the glass heat transfer would help. The concern I have with glass is that it is so heavy. So here is my first question:

Am I crazy trying to get this tank in to my basement? I don't have a walk-out basement. I have a walk-up to my back yard. So the tank will go down a flight of stairs. I've been thinking about ways to get this 616lb to 654lb mammoth of a tank in the basement. I have an idea of a ramp type system. What are your thoughts on this? If it was 300lbs, I would say no problem. I already did that with my buddy for my big screen :D

Stay tuned for the next question. I want to talk about closed loops and Tunze's :)
