Starting cycle without live rock.

I am about to start a new 8 gallon, and have some rocks I kept from the 24 gallon I took down in october in a bucket with water. What should I use now to cycle my tank? I've always used uncured LR, but I have some greatly shaped pieces of live rock that I know would look great in my new tank.
Also, how would I seed this rock with pods and coraline and all that other good stuff?
IT still has some very nice coraline on it, which is really weird. It's been in my dark basement for the past 9 months.

One thing that is largely unclear to me is whether you have LR to put in this tank or not. The title implies you don't, but the rest of your post implies you do.

No, I can get live rock rubble to seed the dead rock if I need to though.
Would it be smarter to just buy live rock? I really like the pieces of dead rock I have. :headwalls:

you can cycle a tank in 5 days with this bacteria from california that this microbiologist sells. its the real deal..

personally, i would use jus dry and wait it out, or use live aragonite sand with it and let it cycle out if it wants to... GL with whatever you decide...

i think he is trying to help.. but i could be wrong... either way, i would not use this product mentioned... go the natural route and have patience... nothing in this hobby that is good, happens fast or when its rushed...

+1 - use the dry rock. Throw a piece of shrimp in the tank and wait. Done.

I would use dry rock and start the cycle in your tank with a piece of fresh shrimp. You can pick it up at any seafood counter at a local store. (I'm sure you have a store that sells fresh shrimp by the pound. You would only need one piece).
