Starting over with same tank and livestock

I realize now I have made some design mistakes with my 3 month old tank. I like my 29g tank but would like to change some aquascape designs as well as maybe drill and add a sump.

Would it be safe for my live stock to reside in a Tupperware/Rubbermaid storage container for a couple weeks while I make adjustments. The container would of course include all of my lighting heater filtration and power heads.

Would I need to move my sand bed to the container with the livestock? I would like to put it in a separate container and just keep it wet. I think this would be easier and cleaner. Would it require flow/heat/filtration?

You can certainly use an appropriately sized container like a Brute trash can as a temporary tank. The sand will not be necessary in the temporary tank unless you have a burrowing wrasse, but you will certainly need the live rock from your tank to keep the fish waste processed. Yes you need water movement via a powerhead and a heater for both the temporary fish tank and the sand.

I would like to remove my live rock and rescape outside the tank. I would like to this in order to drill it and mount it properly. Right now it is just stacked and I don't trust. How long can the rock survive out of water without depleting the beneficial bacteria?
