State College

:wave:Hello,

I am new to the forums and I had a quick question. Is there anyone that lives close to state college or in state college. I am in the process of getting ready to set up a 200 gal tank with a 55 gal sump and maybe a 75 gal refug:hammer:. Not sure, I need to do a lot more reading. So if there was someone close by that I could maybe talk to and look at there setup, to get some ideas it would be awesome.

I live in State College. Not sure how much help I can be but I have been successful so far. There are a few others that live in the area or close. I will shoot you a pm.

I am SC, and have a 500G tank and help take care of the 500G at Penn State. There are a few others who can help.

sanjay.

it would be great for lps and zoas, you MIGHT get away with the lower - light sps like the phonape birdsnest or anacropora sp. if you change out the bulbs every 6 months and you keep them right at the top

i agree with what Tony said. A 30G is not that tall, so you may even be able to put some montipora in there, especially where the 2 bulbs overlap in coverage.

Ok thanks guys. I will put up some pictures, I should be setting up my 75 gal, I was suppose to set up my 200 gal but that 200 gal turned into a 125gal. A little ticked that I got taken advantage of. I bought it off some woman in hagerstown md. I just took the measurements yesterday and its definitly not a 200gal. So I am going to wait around for a 300 gal tank and use the 125 as a sump. I am probably moving in a month so I will just move my 30gal to the 75gal

last night

last night

ok this set of pics are from last night, I got the back nice and clean. It also has a pic of my set up. I know its not the ideal setup but it works for me right now. As you can see my dresser is completely destroyed from the saltwater. Notice that there is no algae, but in the next set of pictures which were taken today notice how bad the algae is.

These were taken this afternoon and notice all the algae. I have never had this much algae before. I am going to try to go altoona tomorrow and get some cleaner crew from coral keepers. I am open to any suggestions as to what I should get.

are you running carbon & granular ferric oxide ( phosban and its many sister brands)? How about a skimmer?

I would get an assorment of 15 - 20 snails of various sizes, not a big fan of crabs here, urchins are great cleaners but they would be bulldozers in this size tank. other than that just be careful not to feed more than the fish can comfortably eat and make sure to do regular water changes with good RO water.

if you have a chance, go to the HUB - robeson center on the PSU campus and have a look at the 500 gal sps display tank, it'll give you plenty of ideas :-). I bet if you ask Sanjay he'll get one of the volunteers to show you how the system works ...
