I haven`t found any answers to this so I had to ask. Has anyone experienced or heard of hermit crabs eating polyps and tissue on sps corals? I have had these corals in the tank for several months ( a pack from reefer madness ) and they have been doing fine, almost all have attached to the live rock and were showing skeletal growth. I`m kinda in the chicken and the egg syndrome, wether the crabs are picking at algae on the tips that have lost tissue or they are plucking the tissue and polyps off. I have probably lost 4 or 5 corals completely in this episode over the last 3 or 4 weeks. All my parameters are within acceptable readings and I do a 10 gal water change weekly, lately as often as twice a week. There are no red bugs that I can detect, and I really have no idea why I am losing so many corals that were otherwise healthy and growing. I am also running a longer than normal MH photoperiod, roughly 10 hours between 2 250W DE 14K hamiltons....Any ideas would be greatly appreciated before I lose them all..including a $150 Yongei.
