Stock list for 6 foot tank - What do you think?

Hi Guys,

What do you think of:

2 Clownfish (not set on what type yet - suggestions?)
Puffer (dogface or porcupine - which one?)
Coral Banded Shrimp / Scarlet Shrimp (can I have both?)
Emperor Angel
Dwarf Angel (Coral Beauty or Flame)
Yellow Tang
Purple Tang

Maybes:

Any wrasse suggestions?
Butterfly fish?
Are there any eels I could have?
Anthias?

6 foot / 180 gallons. FOWLR (maybe coral later, later down the track)

A lot of ideas there... keen to hear what you think...

By the way the order I put the fish in is the order I was thinking to introduce them, so your thoughts on this too please?

puffer + shrimp = puffer snack shrimp also many wrasses are not shrimp friendly but many love a shrimp snack between meals

Aww... OK, I think I'd choose the Shrimp over the Puffer.

Can I keep the 2 Shrimp together?

Coral banded shrimps can predate on other shrimp species, so i'd either go for them or the scarlets. You can have other shrimp species with the scarlets such as cleaner shrimps and these are more active and bold, whereas the coral banded and scarlets are much more secretive.

You can get lots of small clown colour varients. I like the black and white occelaris or the true percula clowns. They are also the more peaceful clown species. I'd also have a look at the skunk clowns which sadly often get overlooked.

Quarantine, quarantine,quarantine!!! dont make the same mistake ive been reading for last couple days. For wrasse the 6 line is a nice looking wrasse that wont cause any problems. Butterflys are finicky eaters but i like the copperband the true australian ones are easier to keep from what ive read but also are twice the price. in QT is where you can train finicky eaters to eat other foods, if you go to liveaquaria.com and click on marine fish it tells you some info about each fish and what they like to eat and what they can be housed with, it is really helpful info! are you planning on adding the red sea purple tang? if so i would add the yellow tang first since the purple is more aggressive.

ok cool, thanks for the suggestions. I am going to add the tangs last and both at the same time... so one doesnt have any territory over the other.

Personally, I would skip the Emperor Angel -- will get way too big for that sized tank.

How about some of the moderately sized angels instead?

Apolemichthys and Chaetodontoplus species.

Navarchus angels don't get huge, and even asfur angels, from what I've seen and read, don't get large in home aquaria.

To be honest I haven't thought too much about the large angel yet... so didn't read about the Emperor. Thanks for the note about it getting too big... and I like those other suggestions for the Angels... so I'll research this one some more.

I agree with previous suggestions. How long has this tank been in existence? Cycled?

It has been up and running for 3 weeks now. I used substrate and filter media from an existing tank and added 140 pounds of live rock... cycle was over about 4 days ago.

I bought a Coral beauty, Flagfin Angel, 1 Occelaris and 1 Percula.

I know the Flagfin can be difficult so I'll keep an eye on him... he has been grazing on the live rock all day... he didn't seem too interested in the frozen brine shrimp but did pick at it a bit once it reached the substrate...

I might pick up a pair of Coral Banded Shrimp next...

Do you think I can keep any other angels with the Flagfin?

I'd be careful. 3 Weeks for a cycle is pretty short. I would test parameters frequently in the next couple days.

Agreed. Watch parameters, and watch your fish for the next several months since you didn't QT. I personally wouldn't add anything for at least 3 months.

If you plan on adding any butterflies, you will need to get a QT tank for them.
