Well, I thought I'd start here as I've finally got my 55g transferred to my 125g.
Let's just say mixed limewater pumped into a 55g over a period of 2 days = tank crash. Ammonia hit 8.0. The rock was established rock for 2 years in a previous owner's tank, 9 months in my 55g, and now in my 125g.
It's coming back to life beautifully 7 weeks after the crash. (quick background on the rock)
Lighting: 2 X 250w MH and 1 X 400W MH, 2 VHO bulbs for actinics.
Water flow: 2 X Evolutions 750gph, and 1 modded maxijet rated at 1200gph.
RR 125g with 29G Eurobrace sump (2 overflows)
Just purchased BRS GFO reactor with Maxijet 1200. Phosphates = .5
DT has a "shallow" sand bed of around 3" in places around 2 ".
Sump has DSB of around 5" in one half of it, bare bottom in the skimmer half.
125g current stocking list.
current CUC
2 Mexican snails (they're making a dent in the grassy algae on the back glass)
5 necarious snails.
4 or so hermit crabs (small)
4 or 5 regular small snails.
Chaeto - To breeding ground for pods (hopefully) and water filtration.
Current Fish:
1X marine betta I've had since the start of my 55, I've had him going on 8 - 9 months now he's grown and is around 5".
2 X oscellaris clowns. (orange and white.. One is handicap.. Missing a bottom fin, and has a short fin on one side for swimming. He seems to be doing fine though.. Wife insists on calling him Nemo since he's deformed...
)
1 X Sleeper Goby.. (He's doing his job of sand sifting. He keeps the sand on one side of the tank clean.. The other side not so much...)
Corals: 2 very large chalaces - 1 is bowl shaped rusty orange in color approximately 8 - 10" in diameter. The other is growing vertically in more like "veil" shape and has a variety of shades of pink from light to dark pink.
Lots of LPS - 3 -4 types of brains, 2 different types of frog spawn trees, Gargantuan tree leather. It's probably around 10" tall, and around 6 - 8" in diameter. Some ricordia, and some orange SPS thing of some type. It's just mound with pointy things sticking out, and I have around 5 or 6 colonies of green candycanes. also
Anyways, that's my basic current stocking list. I'm not sure how much rock there is. I had around 70 - 80lbs in my 55g, I'm using most of that, plus there was another 30 pounds in small rock that I got from the previous owner (all dry) and then another 20 pounds, (maybe more) of rock that the corals were growing on. So in total, possibly around 130 -150 pounds of rock. I have around 10 -15 pounds of it in the sump. May transfer more to the sump because I don't have a lot of floor room.
I like spacious floor area for sand things...
Dream stocking list (this will be done very slowly over time and no more than one or two living purchases a month):
1 x Sailfin Tang
1 x Blue tang (very spendy, not sure I'll be able to spring for this guy, but is very gorgeous)
1 x Purple tang (maybe)
1 x Mystery or fairy wrasse.
1 X another goby of some type that will get alone with the sleeper goby.
1 X not sure I can do this with my betta, since they may be too small, but would possibly consideer a mandarin goby if I get enough pods. However, he may just end up being an expensive meal for my marine betta. So far the betta has left the sleeper goby alone. So I'll think about it.
Plans for inverts:
1 or 2 x clams (may do 2 with the given lighting I have).
1 x a sea cucumber
1 X probably rbta
1 x urchin of some type. (reef safe)
1 X sand sifting starfish
1 or more duncans (love duncans for some reason.)
Lots more LPS as $$ and trading allows.
I'm looking for colorful, active swimmers. I have a lot of passive stuff right now. The betta just hangs out. The goby hides in the rocks sifting sand.... The clowns swim back and forth. So anything to add activity. Which I know the tangs would add.
I'm open to any other larger fish suggestions ok for a 125g.
Let me know thoughts and I'm open to livestock options that are good with everything above.
Thanks for your opinions in advance!
