Stocking limit in my long 12g?

Hey guys!

So my first sw tank has been up and running for 1,5 months now, and everything has been totally smooth so far (crossing fingers). Coralline algae spreading well, lots of different tiny life. I've added a skunk cleaner + 2 very small occellaris clowns.
They've been there a week now and all is fine, values are good (ammonia 0, nitrates 5).

Im running a skimmer 8 hours a day, but its taking up too much space so im installing a Aquaclear 50 DIY refugium with a bit of filter floss and chaeto instead, and increasing water changes.

At my LFS i fell in love with a tiny okinawa clown goby, which I would love to add as the last member, but I can't tell if I've reached my limit already? Im reading a lot of different responses in regards to the stocking limit..

(Not sure if its of any value, but I plan to upgrade the size of the tank in 1-1,5 years after moving to a bigger place).

If you want it , do it. Gobbies stay pretty small. And as long as you're not giving them too much extra food there shouldn't be a issue. Just keep up with exporting nutrients with refuguem, skimmer and water changes. This is my opinion, good luck

Thanks for your input! Im glad your post content did not correlate with your username :D

First, I would like to say that I think you have a great aquascape!

I don't want to be negative, but, even with pristine water quality I am afraid that the goby will be bullied to death by the clownfish pair. A pair will likely dominate every cubic inch of those 12 gallons.

You would be fine getting a few microgobies - Trimmas, Eviotas, Discordipinna grissingeri, pandas, and the like.
I had about 15 in a 10g - a well fed 10g, and everyone got on just fine.
Just do a bit of research on husbandry if you decide to go this route.

Thanks! :-)

I see, that would definitely ruin the experience :-/ My clowns tend to stay almost exclusively in just one half of the tank, without me having added a host there yet, so maybe I could hope the goby takes to the other part?
I do have a backup tank so I could rescue the little fella in case things go sour, but your post definitely has me reconsidering now..
