Hopefully in the next week, my tank will be algae free!

If it continues at the speed it's going, it might be good in a few days. I know I want a pink spotted goby and shrimp pair first, along with more clean up crew. I also want a school of fish at some point, but I am not sure what fish to get. I was thinking anthias. My fear is making a wrong choice and buying 6-10 fish and not being happy with them. But my biggest fear is adding 6-10 fish at once and increasing the bio load like that. Does anyone have input stocking the fish. It's a 220 and nothing in it now but 19-20 turbo snails.

I think you're right about adding 10 fish right away. I would probably add some of your other wants to get the tank more established before adding a school. Not an expert by any means, but I think anthias are recommended three or four females to one male. If you want a large school you could do blue and green chromis.

You definitely dont want to add 6-10 fish at once. You also dont wanna start with Anthias, they can be rather finicky and I dont think adding them right away would be a good idea.

Most of the algae is gone! Still have white hairs on back glass and a very, very small patch of GHA. I picked up 10 tiny blue leg crabs, an emerald crab, and a shrimp goby pair. Also had a second opinion on my water parameters and we are looking great! Come on Saturday!!

Thanks for the input. I will wait a while for the school. My concern is adding them too soon. My concern was adding 10 fish too soon or too late. I wouldn't have added 10 fish to start a new tank. But I wasn't sure if I could after some time of having 4-5 fish. I guess I am just afraid of doubling the bio load. I don't know how many fish I can have in a 220, I assume it depends on feeding and maintenance schedules. I think schooling fish only travel in schools if they feel threatened. So after the I add the school of fish, what fish do you recommend that will coexist with a reef and other fish, if I add him/her last?

What's the concerned question :headwally:

Do you have a list of fish that you want to keep in this tank?

Do you have a list of fish that you want to keep in this tank?

List of fish that my wife likes. ***Full disclaimer*** My wife doesn't have much interest in reef keeping, she only enjoys watching the tanks. Also, I haven't researched all of these fish enough, but I don't think some are reef safe. I have read some are not reef safe, but then others say they are. This is only her list of favorites, not a definite list. Any input of fish to stay away from and stocking order is greatly appreciated.

Mandrin
Blue dot Jawfish
FoxFace
Cubicus Boxfish
Dragon face Pipefish
Saddle Valentini Puffer
Dwarf Lion Fish
Wart Skin Angler
McCosker's or Scott's Wrasse
Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
Redtail Trigger
Regal AngelFish
Queen Angelfish
Emperor Angelfish
Lyretail Anthias (School)
or
Blue Reef Chromis (School)
Flame Hawk Fish
Blue Tang
Blond Naso Tang
Coral Beauty

Thats a pretty big list.

Mandrin -- need at least a year for pod population to grow before you get this.
Blue dot Jawfish -- Nice fish, expensive and a jumper. Make sure you have a snug screen lid
FoxFace -- Nice fish.
Cubicus Boxfish -- Never had one.
Dragon face Pipefish. Never had one but dont think theyre a good fit for reef tank with a lot of flow.
Saddle Valentini Puffer -- Not a good fit if you plan on keeping any shrimp or crabs.
Dwarf Lion Fish -- This will eat anything it can fit into it's mouth. madarins, anthias etc.
Wart Skin Angler. This too will be a predator in your reef .
McCosker's or Scott's Wrasse -- These are peaceful, big time jumpers.
Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
Redtail Trigger .-- This will also eat your inverts.
Regal AngelFish. -- Can be finicky eaters initially .
Queen Angelfish.-- Will eat corals
Emperor Angelfish-- Will eat corals
Lyretail Anthias (School) Finicky eaters, must be fed multiple times a day
or
Blue Reef Chromis (School)-- Getting a group of these is like watching a highlander movie. "There can be only one" . They only school when theres a threat .
Flame Hawk Fish . -- Will eat inverts unless you add the inverts first.
Blue Tang -- Buy one thats been in captivity for a while, theyre very susceptible to ich when first introduced
Blond Naso Tang . Same that as with the Blue tang.
Coral Beauty - Great fish, may nip at corals. luck of the draw on these guys.

Hope this helps!

Looks like we're getting a clown and calling it a day.

That's a good start although theyre prolly the meanest of all. lolz

Personally I have some fish that arent considered reef safe. Like the Niger Trigger and my HT wrasse. It just means I cant have any shrimp and Ive gotta restock my CUC periodically . No big deal if you're willing to make the sacrifice for the fish you want. Ive also got fish in my tank that consider any colorful zoas a tasty snack. Again I just dont put any zoas in my main DT. I still have plenty of nice corals in the tank, just not zoas.

If you do want a Trigger then I would suggest blue throat as theyre prolly the safest trigger for a reef tank.

Well i was initially looking for a bigger fish and realized my tank is too small. But if you look up other rabbitfish/foxface they have some very nicer colors besides the standard foxface. In that tank reef safe wrasse as super cool imo. You may want to tell your wife some mcosker don't look like in the online pics.
