stocking reef tank

I am looking at how many peaceful 2-12" fish per sq foot I can put in a 5,000 gallon aquarium.
No it does not exist but I am planning a pubic aquarium probably never to be built but you know just imagination.
Do I stock it until they are bumping into each other or spread them out and give them lots of swimming space. I was thinking I could put two fish per square foot because most of them are 2-4" but there's a few larger ones.

You're planning a WHAT? aquarium?

Why are so many of your posts meaningless? You are on a forum where people help each other, yet 80% of your posts are just troll or random meaningless comments...

Seadragon:

Anyhow, I would recommend a maximum of about 1-1.5 fish per square foot depending on size. If most of the fish are smaller (<5") I would say you are fine.

**PLEASE take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, I'm just going by general moderate - heavy stocking guidelines for a hobbyist size aquarium. I have never built a public aquarium**

Examples:

60 gallon (2x2x2) = 8 sq. ft = 8-10 fish
120 gallon (4x2x2) = 16 sq. ft = 16-20 fish
180 gallon (6x2x2) = 24 sq. ft = 24-30 fish
240 gallon (8x2x2) = 32 sq. ft = 32-40 fish

Hope others can provide you with a little more insight, good luck, if you ever build this tank, make sure to post! :fish2::fish2:

Okay I'm sorry... for a 5000 gal tank you have lots of room, so according to Fish Everywhere, 1200 gal=40×2×2=160 sq. Feet = 160-200 fish so 5000 gal is about 4 times so 160 sq. Feet x 4 = 640 sq. Feet = 640-700 fish

okay thanks and I am sorry for my posts being so meaningless but they do mean something to me and now that I got answers I will stop posting )-:

I was not talking about you! My apologies if it seemed that way...

Stocking questions are very meaningful and provide insight for everyone, if you have a question, don't be afraid to post! We would be glad to help :)

oh okay I just find stocking the aquarium the most interesting part of owning an aquarium even if I cant actually have the fish (-:
