Stocking tank

lolgranny

The DQ King
Its that time, tanks been stable for 2months now, rock has been cooked / cured for 4months...

Have a 40g tank, Bare bottom. 20g sump / fuge. About 35lbs of Live rock scaped in 2 small islands. One on both sides of the tank so there will be plenty of swimming room

This is what i would like to get:
Would like some opinions on it.

2----(Male / Female) Flasher Wrasse / or just 1
3----Chromis
1----Athinas( not sure what kind, maybe a lyretail)
2----Cardinal fish
1----Mandarin Dragonette

OR i would like to swap out the dragonette and put a Yellow coris wrasse if it would work. I could also drop down the chromis to only 2 insted of 3.

i would like to keep it close to this list / 8 fish, but any opinions / critisim is welcome :) :)

Thanks,
David

i would say everything sounds okay, cardinals get big (i inherited one lol) and i would definitly wait atleast 2 more months to ensure proper copepods for the mandarin

Ya most defiantly, i might be siding with the yellow coris wrasse because ive been reading they can eat bugs on corals.... always a +

I think the Anthias may be an issue. From everything I've read on recommended tank sizes, they need at least 75 gallons, some of them (like the lyretail you mentioned) have recommendations of 125g"¦ LiveAquaria Write Up . There are probably people who have kept them in smaller tanks like a 40b, but if you want it happy, I'm not sure. And 40g seems a little small for a mandarin too. Regardless of how well cycled the tank is, it boils down to having the room to have enough copepods to sustain him/her"¦ unless you plan on buying copepods and dumping them in the tank every month or so or farming them yourself.

Ya hands down the Athinas are in too small of a tank, but i plan on getting them small and have a house for them(100g) when they get big. as for the Mandarin, ive kept one in a 20g with no issues / no fuge so im assuming he wont be a issue. Althoug i think i might eliminate him from the list and grab a yellow coris wrasse.

will the yellow coris wrasse be ok with a flasher wrasse?

Little heads up don't know if it just happens to me but everytime I get 4 or more chromis I always end up with 2. I said f it and stayed with 2 and they been going good for 9 months or so. And no they were never attacked by other fish no damage at all.

Hm, i thought they needed to be in 2+. I rather have 2, but thats what i was "told" lol

Yea, they are suppose to be schooling fish as far as I know but I always end up with two. I don't know if they pair up within the group and make a dominate pair and run the others out. It could always just be my tank maybe others can post their experiences with chromis but goodluck with your tank.

Thanks for the heads up buddy! :)
