Stoped at my lfs today Tropical reef

no offense to anyone's sensibility but I refuse to pull punches about crappy LFS just because they might throw NORA a bone once in a while. If someone doesn't like the criticism of their store then they should fix the problems that sparked it in the first place. Besides, most LFS owners think they know everything and would never refer to the internet, my GOD! Everytime I refer to reef central at LFS's I get the eye roll like I mentioned eating children or the reading from the Necronomicon.

I agree 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmmm... tough subject.

On one hand we need to provide feedback for LFS's that have areas that need improving, without blowing every little incident out of proportion so as not to alienate them. On the other hand we can pretty much expect that LFS's who consistently receive bad reviews on the forums won't be knocking on our door to sponsor us. And that's just fine by me.

But I think it is important to be fair and at least take the time to re-think our posts to make sure we are not being overly critical. At the same time LFS's who read these forums need to realize that no LFS is perfect.

hmm again I agree 100% I guess if we have something to say then we should not do say it in a public forum. Maybe we should talk to the shop owners first and try to get them to see our side.

Unfortunately I doubt an LFS with prices set nearly double on common items I can get elsewhere without haggling is worth my time. I for one was offended by a particular owner trying to BS me that I couldn't find IO cheaper than his $50. I think at that time the discussion was that he bought supplies from other stores...
I also think any sponsorships will look like endorsements and we need to temper those with honest information. If Petcountry is known for untrained staff or unkempt livestock or if Equatorial Reef has nice livestock but prices are stratospheric or if someplace else just sucks all around or somebody does everything right then we have the obligation to share that knowledge.
