Full Disclosure: I have NO affiliation with this store, and received NO compensation for writing this review.
Bottom Line: A nice little store with excellent livestock prices. A decent selection of coral for a store this size, and an owner who is is generally interested in “talking tanks†with his patrons. I worry for this store’s future, I rarely see anyone else in there.
Full Review: Ever since Chris put together the comprehensive list of fish stores in Broward and Miami Dade counties, I have made it my personal goal to visit them all. So far I have been to all of the Miami Dade stores, and about half of those in Broward. Now I am in the habit of revisiting the Dade stores in groups. For example, I will hit the four stores on Bird Road (Exotic Aquariums, Reef Aquarium II, Strictly Fish, Amazing Aquariums) one after another since they are all within a couple of miles on the same road. Easily overlooked in this group is Deep Reef Aquarium at 5688 W Flagler St. From the Bird Road stores: just hop on the Palmetto North, get off at Flagler, and go East for 15 blocks. Its an easily missed store in the same building as a gas station/Kwiki Mart type place.
I took the time to add it to my Bird Road group yesterday, and I was not disappointed. I bought four pieces of livestock, all of them priced well below what I recall from other stores. If I recall correctly: the firefish was $5.99, an awesomely colored pink and white open brain for $39, and a bloodshrimp for $24.99. Each of these prices was about 25% lower than similar item I had just seen in the Bird Road stores. The fish selection was a bit limited, but the prices were overall quite good. The decent coral selection filled two typically sized frag tanks, again with good prices.
So, if you visit stores in groups like I do, I recommend adding this one to your Bird Road run.
