Storing water.. fresh and mixed

I keep my mixed saltwater, for water changes, aerated, heated and snugly covered... for how long can it be kept like this?

For fresh RO/DI water, is it necessray to aerate it? How long can it be kept for, should it be kept in an air tight container or will just a tight cover do?

I keep mine stored in the basement in the typical Brute trash can. I use a MJ1200 to keep the water moving along with an airstone to keep it aerated (and a heater) and never had any problems with it smelly "musky".

I'm basicly just wondering , if I make a whole bunch of RO/DI and it takes me a month to use, would the RO/DI water be ok in a Brute trash can for that much time? Is it necessary to aerate RO/DI water that I will be using for daily topoffs?

Also, would mixed saltwater be ok for that much time as well?

I am intertested to find out this as well.....

I keep my waterchange water in a rubbermaid roughneck as well.... covered snugly with the lid....when I do my weekly 20g-25g waterchange there is always a little left in the bottom of the can but I just fill it up with RODI and add more salt so that way I always have water in case of an emergency...... I have 2x MJ1200 one pointed up and the other pointed down and a heater so it is ready whenever I need it....

is this good practice??

As long as you don't drink it. Since there is no chlorine in the water it can build bacteria. I've never aerated or kept a pump for circulation in my storage for RODI and the fish have never suffered from it.

i store it in a rubbermaid with a powerhead and a heater and it may take 3-4 weeks to use it all...never had any smell or issues

I try to keep 50 gallons of RO/DI water and I am working now with about 30 gallons of Saltwater. The reason I keep so much is because I have to pump water from the 50 gallon barrel to a garbage can close to my tank which is in my office which I use for ATO. I haven't been using a power head in my Ro/DI water until recently. I never had any musky smell. I do not keep the water covered as well. My saltwater I keep a powerhead in as well now. I find it easier to get a water change take care of with having the water already prepared, since I have the tank at my office.
