Strange Blue tang sickness

I just noticed after i came home from college for the weekend that my blue tang looks funnny. My mom has been taking care of the tank but does not know much or recognize when a fish is sick so she didnt tell me this before. to describe it, on the face it literally looks like chipped paint. he is eating normally and not acting weird. but i was wondering if anyone knows what this is and if it is deadly and how to treat it. it isnt ich i know for sure. Thanks

A picture would help a lot but you might try looking up HLLE (head and lateral line erosion).
