Stumped from the start

I'm stuck and all I've done is unhook all my lights! I have it mostly set up as far as physical. I have 2 questions just to get started.

Looking in the aquanotes manual, it says to connect the pc with a serial cable. Can I not use a crossover cable?

Also, after I get the basic program set up, I'm going to go get a wireless router and some wireless connections for my laptop and the ac3. All the wireless components are usb except for the main hub. Is there an adaptor for ethernet to usb or ??

Thanks in advance for some help and I'm hoping this gets seen before best buy/office max/office depot closes so I can run and get the pieces I need.

If you are going to hook a AC3 or a AC3PRO use an Ethernet cable (cat5 or cat5e w/ RJ45 connectors) to connect to your network. A serial connection to AquaNotes is not supported on the AC3 or AC3PRO.

I went out and bought a router so I'm now connected with ethernet cables. When I run Aquanotes I keep getting a modem connection box popping up. I also get the aquacontroller not responding. If I type in the IP address on page 10 it comes up with password entry that doesn't match the built in 1234 but if I type in my syslink password it goes to a syslink page. Does that mean I need to change the IP of the router so that that IP is available to the ac3?

I'm sooooooo lost! I haven't messed with networks since NT4. And def. not wireless routers! I just got back on the internet and recognized my router.

I did change the controller IP but I can't call it up. I was able to ping it but not see the web interface.

OK, I'm getting better. I had to talk with linksys and they did a firmware upgrade and got rid of some ip conflicts. I then went and edited my AC3 net info. My aquanotes now communicates with the AC3!!!!

Still, if I type in the IP address of the AC3 I don't get the web interface but that can be fixed later. Now to get the programming of my basic commands so these guys aren't in the dark.
