Stupidist Fish Ever

I was poking around the tank today and noticed my beautiful elongate dottyback was MIA. Figured he surfed to the sump as another fish had a couple times before.

Wasn't there so I searched the tank and saw him hanging out of a rock getting cleaned by my peppermint shrimp , mouth wide open-weird. Anyway it looked pretty sweet as I've never seen that before- after a couple of minutes of observation I noticed said fish wasn't moving and something was " fishy" haha

Long story short, turns out that the fish must've gotten stuck in the little crevice or cave and died as it was perfectly fine yesterday and months before. I had to crack open the rock to get him out and confirmed the worse.

O well. Nothing I can do bout it.

thanks john, he was in there pretty good not even a strong shake or careful pull would make him budge. He went out the way he loved i guess. Cruising crevices for treats.

I had that happen with a Square Anthias... not fun!

Had that happen with an astrea snail in my nano yesterday. Got itself wedged between the glass and rock and died. Found the nassarius snacking on it.

I've had snails go into Acro colonies, and not able to get out in time before the shell is encrusted.

The fish had probably gone into that hole a million times in the past. This time he just didn't account for his normal growth and/or the fat buffet of pods he found once he got inside.
