Suggestions for a 40x8x8"

As above I am adding a 40x8x8" (just to confirm that's inches, I'm not flooding my house) and thinking if it's suitable to add anything. So essentially there is plenty of length but not much width or height, so small fish are only considered.
its an odd shape as it's going on a wall and replacing two smaller tanks. This is connected to the main system so filtration isn't an issue. It may partly be used to grow things up rather than a longterm home but the fish would need to feel comfortable in the depth.

Clown gobies, possum wrasse, tailspot blenny and maybe one of the smaller goby/pistol pairs.
Or maybe invert only with some anemone shrimp etc

Cardinals and possum wrasse are interesting as they wouldn't work as well in the main display.

I would consider adding various types of basslets and flasher wrasses. Both stay small and tend to have a lot of color. The flasher wrasses would be pretty active too.

TBH for me flashers need far more vertical height and its pretty tiny front to back as well. Basslets are a possibility but i'm planning minimal rockwork or more precisely branching outcrops rather than nice caves. Its a challenge to scape due to the space and it will probably evolve into more of a macro algae display with cover at one end.
I might read more into the cardinals mentioned earlier or go for a single wrasse like a possum (maybe two if they work ok).

Eviota, trimma species...you could have quite a lot and it would look very busy if you just added a few quiet fish eg Wetmorella species, Priolepsis nocturna (very underrated IMO).

Not sure, since temperament can vary, but possibly a single Plectranthias inermis.
If you can get a hold of a tiger blenny, Escenius tigris, a solitary one would work. Very personable and shouldn't bully anyone.

Green banded goby is tiny and gorgeous.
