suggestions for MH bulb spectrums

I need to buy two new ballasts. I was looking researching last night and found many people using M56? Ballasts to run their lights. It is certainly a lot more cost effective to do so, but that doesn't make it the best idea. I found them on 1000bulbs from $35-$65 dollars. That doesn't include a housing or fan, just the transformer, cap, and starter.

I looked for the recommended M80 ballasts and they are certainly more costly. I will do more research before I buy anything, unless I find a great deal on M80 ballasts. I now need two 250watt ballasts.

So reading through this I still don't know what direct replacement ballast you have. I have access to a lot of them and could probably help you out.

That would be great. I need two m80 ballasts for 250watt DE metal halide lamps. PM if you have something in mind. Thanks Pife

Do you have any numbers for me to cross reference. Outside of aquariums de metal halide lamps are rare. I'll look on the shelf Monday for something that will work.

I know I have a lot to learn about MH, I thought the ballast dictates the bulbs. I don't know what other information I need. But when I get to work I can send the information off of the fixture. I couldn't find the exact fixture online but I found some that look identical.

I'm still waiting on the same hookup for what 3 years now :headwally::headwally:

lots of people don't like the MH its all LED now. but I had three 250 watt MH over my 225. I liked the light better than the LED fixture I have over my 60 cube. LED gives you lots of options on lighting but MH has the nice Sun shimmer on the sand that I love. When starting a new tank you don't have to have the most expensive latest and greatest equipment to have a good looking aquarium. The husbandry of your aquarium is what makes it great. Take pride in what you have. there was beautiful tanks 20 years ago with much crappier equipment than today.

Thank You. I have LED on my BC and I do the the ability to change the colors, but I have read that many successful reefers won't let go of the Metal Halides.
