suggestions on detaching an anemone

In the past, when trying to detach an anemone I've been told to tickle the foot around the base and it will let go. This "tickling" is more of a rubbing your finger along the base, right where it is connected to the rock/glass. It eventually lets go, and this is supposed to be the safe way of doing it to prevent damaging the creature.

My only experience with an anemone did not last long and I think it was a combination of things, but could it be that I damaged it by removing it this way. My concern is because I am considering getting another one (obviously to put in a better set up than before) and want to remove it from the rock it is attached to, but I don't want to risk damaging the foot.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Point a power head at the base of the anemone and it should let go. The way I have had to move them is gently lift the foot of the base and have it do the rest.

Could also try rubbing the foot with a ice cube.

I either use my finger nail or a toothpick to pry the foot up then peel it back,but be very careful not to poke through the creature. I have used this method many of times and they are still going strong today. Good luck

Using a toothpick or any sharp object would scare the crud out of me.

If the anemone is on a smooth surfact (like the glass), I've worked them loose by gradually peeling them back using my fingernail to start them, then my fingers.

If it's on a rock, try the powerhead method. I have seen people pick up the rock, and gradually peel them off. But I'm not sure I have the skills to do it.

I've never heard of the ice cube method...wouldn't that be quite a shock to the anemone?

I agree that the toothpick or even fingernail method sounds a little harsh. But if you have had long term success with keeping the anemone after this...who am I to argue. Thanks for the suggestions.
