Suggestions on nem for wide bands

I have a pair of wide bands and they host about 4 rbtas and seem ok but the lady keeps scratching herself up because the rock that the nems are on isn't smooth. I know that crispa is their normal nem but all you can find are small ones. Would a carpet be a possibility?
I've got a pair of cleaner shrimp in with them but they haven't approached them yet, the female kept presenting herself to my sea grass wrasse but it wasn't going to clean her. I pulled the wrasse out and hope they find the shrimp, and I'll try and find a cleaner wrasse.
If I could find a larger nem that they'd host on the sand, I and the clowns would be happier, any suggestions?

No she's scraping the rock that the nems are on, when she goes from one to another, she doesn't seem to realize that it's not one big nem. I believe that in the wild their nems are sandy bottom dwellers, and that would make sense the way she acts.
She always heals up in a few days but I don't want her to get infected. The presenting herself just happened in this past week. I'm surprised they won't use the shrimp.

Marina, I just took another close look and you are right, the one spot on it's right side is clearing up but now there are smaller spots on both sides of the fish, looks like this time it is a parasite. I'm very surprised, I've had the fish for 3 months now, the system has been void of any parasites, all other fish look fine. White spot with pointed end at flesh of fish. Do I need to post a pic or is there a remedy that covers this type of parasite?

Her eyes are still very clear but I did see a spot on pectoral fin. It's a 50g breeder in a system with another 50g, a sump, skimmer, chiller, temp avg 78, weekly 25g water changes.

I cannot see anything in those pics, can you point to the spots with a marker?

They most likely have flukes. FW dip as pre-treatment. Some flukes get cured with prazipro, some with copper in hospital tank.

If they were my fish, I would FW dip for 10 minutes, move to qt with cupramine and prazipro, give more FW dips (every day for maybe 3 days). Antibiotics (Maracyn-2 at double dose or Furacyn) if they develop secondary bacterial infection. Use a container to get them out, as nets will damage the eyes.

Actually, of the few dozen pics I've seen of latz in the wild (and a couple of collectors I've asked), the vast majority of them have latz being hosted by bta's not H. crispa.

As for your female, it looks like she has ick, which would explain the white spots coming and going, and her scratching on the rocks.

Hey Sullyman,

Head up to Sho Tank, Matt just got a bunch of new anenomes in. LTA's, Carpets, and others. Very nice selection.

I guess I just need to let the rbtas get bigger and off the rock they're on.
I gave her a fresh water dip and did a water change, see how she looks tomorrow.

She looks much better today, no spots, and she found one of the cleaner shrimp and is getting cleaned as I type.

I would still hit her with prazipro, wc are usually loaded with internal parasites. Seahorsesource.com has liquid, you can soak food in it. Who knows, maybe you will get rid of flukes and internal parasites with one med.

Marina, I picked up some prazi-pro last night, I have a little formilin too, since I'm still not sure where this is headed. Is the liquid at Seahorse.com different than normal?
I'll take a look thanks.

My female had the same symptoms when I moved her to her new home. Male was unaffected. I couldn't catch her to do a dip so I started to give her extra portion of Spectrum food w/ garlic pellets and stopped feeding my cleaner shrimp. So I think it was a combination of garlic, extra food, and the now hungry shrimp finally cleaning my Latz that worked.

That's good to hear because that's what I have been doing, lots of good food soaked with garlic, the fish are just now letting the shrimp work on them.
I'm getting the things I need for a qt tank, I've got a sponge for a bubble filter in my 190's overflow, any idea how long before it's ready for use?
