Sump and protein skimmer

I just got a sump for my 55 gal fish only tank and i also have a hang on back skimmer....I'd like to put the skimmer in the sump.....the skimmer has a pump and the sump has a pump, can I direct the water from the overflow box on the tank into the skimmer or put a "Y" fitting in the sump pump and have it feed theskimmer or does each thing need its own pump?

What hob skimmer do you? More than likely it's not going to be as efficient If that would work. Post a pic if you can.

I have my BakPak2 HOB skimmer in my sump now...works just fine. I kept it with it's own pump.
