Small sump, about 20g for a low stocked 29g.
Good or bad?

Maybe I'm over thinking it and it could be simpler but this will be the first sump I've ever made and I'd like to do it perfectly :)
I'm five years out of the hobby after relocating but I've been getting the itch recently!
I moved from Ireland to Poland, and while my salary decreased, unfortunately the price of setting up a tank did not. However, it's very exciting for me to think about how to do as much as possible by myself. I plan to only buy fish, salt and test kits from a fish shop, everything else I want to make/source myself.
I plan on setting up a tank around 30g simply because I want to be able to do everything myself without getting help with any heavy lifting etc. I used to have a 75g with fish and a few corals running on 2 canister filters and a skimmer, but now I just want something low maintenance with 2 clowns and cleaner shrimp and maybe one more fish.
The bio load will be quite low so I think this sump should suffice.
My main questions are, would a small plenum even be worth it? Same with the dsb? and how big of a return pump will I need.
Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)

Personally, I don't like dsb's. Were it me I would probably just have a larger skimmer section and a pump section. 1500 gph pump would be plenty imo.

I've never tried a dsb so I don't have any first hand experience, but I like the idea with a plenum to achieve a full cycle.
Whoa do you not think 1500 is too much? That's 30 times my capacity per hour, I was think maximum 12!

You can always throttle it down. It is surprising how much you lose in head pressure and fittings. I have a 2400gph pump on a 100 gallon DT and I am not even getting 10x and that is with only 4 feet of head pressure. Always error on the high side.

Great thanks for the advice.
In my last tank I had an eheim 2217, aqua one something, a V2 skimmer powered by a Rio 2100 and a 1200gph wave maker and I liked the amount of flow. But it was a very different system so it's hard to compare.

Just make sure you have enough room for the skimmer, with the water in that first compartment being high.
