What size sump tank do I need for a 75 gallon set up. I keep trying to research but it is getting a bit overwhelming. Suggestions are welcomed. Especially if it is budget friendly :lmao:

There is no certain size sump needed. Personally I say go as big as you can for the extra water volume but make sure that you can still get in and access all your equipment or what not for cleaning and such. Plan for whatever equipment (proteint skimmer, lightning, hoses and pump, etc...) you will have going into your sump then measure it out and go as large as you can for without over cramping it.

+1 on all of the above. If you are handy look at making your own from a tank. Sometimes 55gal or less tanks are avail for cheap. You just need to add baffles.
You might think about a fuge section in the middle for chaeto, to filter out nitrates.

If you are using a standard stand that get at rhe pet store with the tank I have found the 20L tank to be a good fit for a 75g. Fits well in the stand and is big enough. Its not perfect as I wish it was 36" long and about 2" wider but it works well. I am setting up my 2nd 75g reef and diy my sumps eaxh ti e so if you hqve any questions feel free to ask. If you do have space a 40B makes a nice sump but wont fit unless you have a custom stand.

Standard stand for a 75 can fit a 55g easy.

Do it.

Or you could run it to the basement and use a 50g Rubbermaid stock tank like I did.

The stand is 20" D x 50" W x 29" H. Lighting is the only thing I think I have figured out for this. LOL! We've had the tank for 2 months but have been waiting to start getting it ready for fish.

I'll keep an eye out. I've seen kits for making tank into a sump for cheap, it is just finding a tank...

I would use a true 30gal (not a 29), or (if you can configure your cabinet to fit it) a 40 breeder.
The stand is 20" D x 50" W x 29" H. and the door openings are 15.25" W x 21" H

We have a 14.5 Biocube that came with everything but the protein skimmer. I'm trying to figure out what we need on the big tank to be successful! Any tips you have I'm very open to!

The basement run isn't an option :( As much as hubby loves the fish, he isn't keen on drilling holes through the floor, and the proposed location of the tank would put equipment in the family room of the basement which might be a bit of an eyesore :uhoh2: The other propsed location is on the 2nd floor and that definitely won't allow for drilling to the basement!

I personally would do at least a 40g. The bigger the better. If you're going to build it yourself, wait till one of the pet stores like pet supplies plus has a dollar per gallon tank sale

As long as you have room for the equipment you want and enough available volume to contain all water that would fall back down in the case of a flow loss or power outage, size isn't a make-or-break thing. Make sure you have enough head room in the cabinet over the sump to remove your skimmer/anything else (I've made that mistake and it's heartbreaking haha). Just my opinion. Good luck!
(Here's my current plans for a 29g sump)

Custom 29g sump plans for your approval
