Sump Ideas

I would really like to have a sump, but I just don't have the room under the stand. I measured and I can only get a 10 gallon tank under there (maybe!). I have a closet on both sides of the tank that I could use to house the sump, but then we would have 3/4" or 1/2" hoses running under the door and it would look crappy. Anyone else have this dilema and if so how did you solve it?

Can you get there through the wall???

The wall behind the tank goes outside. I suppose I would go outside then back in? I'm not sure how the wife would feel about that....but I did just notice that there is a built in air conditioner back there...we have central air...so.....I could go through that maybe and it would hide the hoses....

Yes a 10g is the only thing that will fit. When I had my 46g I put it at an angle in a cornor and put the sump behind it. I think your best bet is to go through the wall like I did on my 75g.

You're gonna have to figure something else out, I wouldn't go outside and back in, that will end up causing major headaches, for 1 when it's -10 outside you'll need a bigger heater...

What about emptying out a wet-dry and using that as a sump? Some have smaller footprints but higher sides/ volumes.

I have about 10" x 20" to work with......very small space.

You may have to go the Hang-On-Back route if its that small. If you decide to go HOB, I've got a small cpr aquafuge you can have really cheap. Its collecting dust at the moment, and John will tell you that its not worth the effort. I think that if you pack it with cheatto, it will at least help prevent an algea outbreak and provide a place for pods. The Aqua C Remora HOB skimmers are very popular also.

All that stuff on the back of the tank looks like poo, so try to find a sump if you can.

I have a wet/dry that may work for you. It is 9.75" x 19.25" and is close to 13" at the lowest point. If you think you could get it in the stand, you could have it. Although I don't know how you would work a refugium into it.

BTW...it is dirty and needs a little work.

Is there room next to the stand??? You could build a table or cabinet to enclose it-- and you could potentially use the area in the stand for the return section... this would be a modular sump-- connected via bulkheads

That was my idea too but it would not work in the space that he has. I think the best thing we came up with is by putting the sump in his garage and running the plumbing under the house. I have seen MANY people with sumps in there garage and they have no problems with the fumes and such. Just don't go dumping gas in the sump :)
