Sump in a non-airconditioned or heated garage

Anyone ever attempted this? I am seriously thinking about building a sump area in my garage for my big tank. I would very much like to setup an ATO in my house but am afraid of a malfunction and a flood. Putting a sump in my garage would make it worry-free even if I did overflow. Plus I have come to a point where I hate everything being under my tank and it being so cramped. Every few days I empty my ASMG4X skimmer and it's a real pain to get the cup off in such tight quarters, plus having to change out filter socks in a tight fitting space as well. I see some of the remote sumps people build on here and think how luxurious it would be and how convenient maintenance would be. Of course the weather would work against me - heat in the summer and cold in the winter. I think a big external pump like a hammerhead or barracuda would be more than enough to get plenty of flow back to the tank. Just the weather would be my opponents, I do not want to run a chiller. Would I be able to insulate it somehow to guard against it getting too hot or cold.

Close off the part of the garage you are going to put the sump in and put a return and register in the small room. But if you do all that you might as well fork out the extra cash for a chiller.

I don't see anyway out of using some type of chiller if you put it in the garage, I have my sump in the basement and the temp down there is average 69 degrees but the back of the tank in the garage which is hotter than the gates, my tank tops out at 80 with a fan running on the sump 24/7 as far as heat, heaters are cheap.
