Sump in Other Building

I am working on putting together a new system. My design plans are to put the sump in a room off of the detached carport. The carport is about 30 feet from the room that the tank will be in. I am planning to put the supply and drain lines to the tank under the concrete drive way. The pipes will come up through the foundation into the room in the carport. They will go either through the brick crawlspace foundation wall or up and through a foundation vent to enter the room in the house. There is about a 3-ft difference in elevation between the house floor and the carport floor so drainage should not be a problem.

Before I get into ripping out a trench in the driveway, does anyone have any experience with locating a sump in a different buidling and running the pipes underground? Hoping to get some advice and avoid any problems that I might not of thought of.

Thanks.

No experience, but curious how you will handle water temperature fluctuations over such a long, exposed span.

i have more basic question..how much extra water those in and out pipes will hold i.e how much increase in system volume it will make..?

Hi,

I think it is doable, but you will need to ensure that the pipe you want to use will be able to carry the load of soil + pavement + load of cars + etc etc. Will it be possible for you to run it next to the driveway, so that it doesnt have to withstand the load of concrete pavement + cars ?

Also, I would install some extra pipe since you dont want to have to dig if something happen. Your sump will also need to have extra room to be able to hold the extra water that will be needed to fill the pipes.

Definitely doable. I would strongly consider insulating the plumbing as to not have to deal with temp drops. I have my sump in my crawl space and am very happy to have it in a completely different area.
