Adding some holes in the top of the durso is only effective in very rare cases where the original hole is very small.

Absolutley no one regrets installing a siphon drain system, once you hear the difference and see how it empties silently witn no bubbles or salt creep in the sump, you wonder about the people who keep using Durso's.

I tried to make some adjustments where the water enters the sump made by some local reefers and it has helped a great deal and relieved the air burping but still not as quiet as I would like it to be. When I cut off the pipes to about 2" where the water empties to the sump I realize that about 75-80% of my water drains to the sump in the shorter run which is why that side has the issue. I put a coupler on the pipe with a 90 elbow at water level in sump that I can adjust and it releases air and some water that has stopped the burping but I can still hear some bubbling. That being said, I want to convert to a siphon system to get better flow and to get it completely silent. I have dual overflows with 2- 1" bulkheads in each so I was thinking go to a single return pump with higher volume than the Sicce3.0 and have it go thru the bulkhead return in place that basically goes straight up and has a ball valve on it. What size pump would you recommend for the return to get proper flow? The other questions concern how to run the drains. I would have a 1" bulkhead in the same overflow as the return pump that has the longer run to the sump drain and would have 2-1" bulkheads in the other overflow to work with. I was thinking putting an emergency drain and siphon drain in the overflow that has the short distance to the sump and then a siphon or open channel drain in the other overflow with the longer run. Not sure what an open channel drain is but read it somewhere here. In thinking about it I am not sure it would be that hard to do but am looking for the simplest and most effective way to do this the right way this time with what I have to work with. Would I basically replace the pipes in overflow box with emergency standpipe and Siphon standpipes and then splice a gate valve to each siphon line under the stand and on emergency line just run PVC into sump? I do weekly water changes and shut off my main pump would a siphon automatically start back up or do they need to be tweaked? How should I have pipes enter sump? Submerged I would assume but how far? I would really appreciate any advise or help on how to do this correctly.

Any ideas on what return pump to use for correct flow? What would be the best way to plumb drains? I read somewhere here to put unions on and after the gate valves for maintenance. Do the gate valves require any type maintenance? What is the good and bad on this type set up? Thanks for any advise, suggestions or help so I can do this right.

Get a Jebao DC-9000 or 1200 and put a ball valve on your drain. You will be happy.
Use one gate on the main drain.

Keeping the Durso or replacing it with a shorter standpipe and strainer along with one line as a backup emergency? What is the gph of the Jebao pumps? With 2 - 1 " siphon lines on a 180 what would be the capacity they could drain? Still trying to figure out return pump size I would need with one return going straight up thru a ball valve and out thru double loc line.
