Sump, why is it so complicated?

Eh, I only let mine sit for like two days during the big siliconing. I don't think 2 little drops of silicone will do any harm.
 
Well, what I would do was cut teeth from the filter intake looking thing that goes on the hole of the tank, to allow more water to go into the DT, and it worked but it would slowly drop back. I am going to see if the problem is the evap, and at the same time measure my water levels.
 
I think that an auto-topoff would work wonders here.

It sounds like your return section is very small, so even a small bit of evaporation (which happens, even when the lights are out), will appear as a large drop in water level.

Check out autotopoff.com. I've been using one of their dual float switch packages for over a year without a glitch.
